Prof. Jerzy Osiatyński
Born in Riga on 2nd November 1941. He graduated from the Main School of Planning and Statistics in 1964, professor of economic sciences (1989). He has been working at the Institute of Economic Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences; since 2007, he has been the Chairman of the Scientific Board of the Institute. Since 2001, he has been professor at the High School of Banking and Finance in Bielsko Biała.
The subject of his research includes: theory of economy, the history of the economic thought in the 20th century, public finances. Publications: two books, several dissertations, an academic handbook Public Finances: economy and politics (2004, 2 editions WN PWN, Warsaw 2006); edition of Works of Michał Kalecki (six-volume Polish edition – PWE, Warsaw 1979-88; seven-volume English edition, Oxford University Press, 1990-97). Honorary doctorate of New York University (1990).
Between 1989 and 1991 he was a Minister – Director of the Central Planning Office; a deputy to the Sejm, chairman and vice-chairman of numerous committees and sub-committees of the Sejm. From 1992 to 1993 the Minister of Finance. He was chosen the best Minister of Finance in Central and Eastern European countries (Central European Finance and Business in Central and Eastern Europe 1993). Since 2001 a member of the Social-Economic Strategy Council beside the Prime Minister, between 2004 and 2006 vice-chairman of the Council.
Between 1995 and 2008, he was a consultant of the World Bank, UNDP, and other international and non-governmental organizations operating in the area of economic transformation mainly in the Central and Eastern European countries and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Since 2007 a member of the Committee of Economic Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, since 2009 a member of the Committee of Economic Research of the National Bank of Poland, from January until 10th April 2010 a member of the National Development Council beside the President of the Republic of Poland.
