Prime Minister of Slovakia in the Presidential Palace

On 5th October 2006 President Lech Kaczyński received the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Mr Robert Fico on an official visit in Poland.

President Lech Kaczyński congratulated the Prime Minister on his appointment to this office.

During the meeting both interlocutors underlined close political cooperation on the highest level and the considerable convergence of views as regards regional cooperation and the European Union. Very good cooperation of both countries in many areas was noted with satisfaction. This included border area cooperation and close contacts between the citizens of both countries.

President Lech Kaczyński and Prime Minister Robert Fico emphasised the need for further cooperation within the Visegrad Group. The Interlocutors agreed that member states of the Visegrad Group should discuss within the Group and agree positions on key matters, which they would then raise jointly on the EU forum. These matters include i.a. energy security, a common currency, the constitutional treaty and becoming part of the area covered by the Schengen agreement.
