Preparations for a Weimar Triangle summit

On 20 June 2006, Under-Secretary of State at the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Krawczyk, held consultations in Berlin with Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Christoph Heusgen. The meeting was held as part of the preparations for the Weimar Triangle summit scheduled for 3 July 2006.

The talks focused on the agenda for the summit and the guidelines for the joint final political declaration to be adopted there. It was noted that the 15th anniversary of the Weimar Triangle co-operation was falling this year.
Andrzej Krawczyk and Christoph Heusgen also reviewed the possible forms of co-operation between particular ministries. The current international situation was discussed, with a special emphasis on the situation in Iran and the Middle East. The meeting focused on the Eastern dimension of EU policy, especially on EU relations with Ukraine, Belarus and Russia, within tripartite Polish-German-French co-operation and in bilateral Polish-German co-operation. The possibilities of military co-operation between the Weimar Triangle member states in the Congo peacekeeping operation were considered. Tripartite co-operation within the framework of the NATO operation in Afghanistan was also discussed.
