The President of the Republic of Poland has arrived in New York

In the afternoon (American time) of 17 September 2006, the President of the Republic of Poland, Lech Kaczyński, arrived in New York to attend the 61st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Immediately upon arrival, the Polish President went to Ground Zero, where he laid flowers on the site of the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001. The ceremony involved police officers and firefighters of Polish origin who had participated in the rescue effort. ‘I would like to believe that this great tragedy, the sufferings of the victims and their families will bear fruit that will bring this world of ours peace and victory over aggression’ – wrote President Lech Kaczyński on a special World Trade Center Site Memorial Center card. The cards are stored in the Center’s archive.
