Reply to the letter of the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe

On August 8, 2006, the Undersecretary of State in the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr Andrzej Krawczyk replied to the letter of the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Mr René van der Linden addressed to the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr Lech Kaczyński.

In his letter, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe made a groundless suggestion that the President of the Republic of Poland proposed to restore the death penalty in Poland.

Below you can find the text of the Minister’s reply:

Dear Mr President,

Replying to your letter of August 2, 2006 addressed to the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr Lech Kaczyński I would like to inform you, that the President of the Republic of Poland has not presented any proposal to restore the death penalty.

Therefore, your demand that the President of the Republic of Poland should withdraw his motion concerning the death penalty is groundless.

Sincerely yours,

Andrzej Krawczyk
