On 8 January 2007, the President of the Republic of Poland, Lech Kaczyński, met with International University Sport Federation (FISU) President George E. Kilian.

Other participants included Deputy Chief of the Presidential Chancellery Robert Draba; Mayor of Poznań Ryszard Grobelny; Marian Dymalski, Member, FISU Executive Committee; Marek Rocki, Chairman of the Main Board, Academic Sports Association of Poland (AZS); and Artur Piłka, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Poland. In the course of the meeting, President Lech Kaczyński declared his support for Poznań’s authorities’ bid to host the 2011Summer Universiade. The Polish President pointed out that the venture enjoyed the support of the Polish government and emphasised the assets of Poznań, the capital of the Wielkopolska region: its location and infrastructure. In his opinion, arguments in favour of Poznań include the city’s location at the centre of Europe and a good and constantly modernised transport network providing convenient access to the candidate city. In President Kaczyński’s opinion, in selecting the victorious city to host the 2011 Summer Universiade, account must be taken of the investments already made and planned in Poznań’s sports facilities. It was also emphasized that Poznań has rich experience in organising major events, such as international fairs.
