NATO Secretary General visits Poland

On 13 March 2008, President of the Republic of Poland Mr Lech Kaczyński met in the Presidential Palace with NATO Secretary General Mr Jaap de Hoop Scheffer who came on a visit to Poland. 

The discussions centred around preparation for NATO Summit in Buchares,on the opening of the Alliance to the Balkan states and on making MAP available to Ukraine and Georgia.

The President of RP underscored that the open door policy of the Alliance in a value-added of NATO and safeguards the enlargement of an area of peace and stability in Europe. Poland’s President emphasised the responsibility that will rest on NATO states’ leaders in this respect during the Bucharest debate.

NATO Secretary General noted with appreciation the role and dedication of President Lech Kaczyński to the promotion of stability and democracy in the East and expressed gratitude for Poland’s commitment to the ISAF mission ran in Afghanistan under NATO auspices.

The two interlocutors also exchanged views on the subject of the current security situation in the regional and international context with the special regard paid to the Kosovo question and energy security on the NATO forum.
