“We have discussed the situation in Georgia, in Russia, and in our country,” the President said summarising his meeting with Mikheil Saakashvili, the President of Georgia, during their joint press conference that was held in the afternoon.

“We have exchanged information concerning the current situation in the European Union pertaining to an issue that will always remain important for Poland – the issue of Georgia,” Lech Kaczyński emphasized.

He also returned to the events of August 2008: “What happened in August last year was not an act of aggression on the part of Georgia. The situation was quite the opposite and it should be perceived as such by Europe. In this respect, my stand has not changed at all.”

“My relations with President Saakashvili were not damaged,” Lech Kaczyński remarked, in relation to the incident in Georgia on 23 November 2008.

The meeting of the Polish President and the President of Georgia began with a traditional greeting held on the terrace of the Presidential Palace, in the presence of the media.
