President Bronisław Komorowski believes that 2011 will confirm that Czech-Polish cooperation can indeed prove beneficial. In Prague on Monday the President spoke favourably about the relations between the Czech Republic and Poland, both in terms of politics and the economy.

The visit by President Komorowski and his wife, Anna, to the Czech Republic lasted two days and was the third such meeting of the Polish and the Czech presidents since the beginning of Komorowski's incumbency.

Komorowski, speaking during a press conference with Václav Klaus, emphasized that the two countries were like close neighbours who "have for twenty years been following the same fine path towards modernisation and integration with the Western world."

"Today, apart from the feeling that our fates intertwine, it is very important that we should also feel we share the same interests, both within the EU and in the direct relations between our countries," Komorowski said.

He spoke very favourably about the cooperation between the Polish and Czech governments and he also praised the cooperation of the two countries on the economic level.

Václav Klaus, in his speech, also emphasized the significance of Czech-Polish relations and supported their further development, adding that he and Bronisław Komorowski discussed the interests their countries share within the EU. "We firmly believe that we should strive towards jointly promoting our points of view – this could only result in enhancing our position," he said.
