On 8 July 2011 President Bronisław Komorowski met with He Guoqiang, a member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China. During the meeting He Guoqiang invited President Komorowski to pay an official visit to China by the end of 2011.

“President Bronisław Komorowski is planning to visit China this year with the aim of tightening bilateral relations,” the China Daily claimed on Saturday, citing the Xinhua news agency. The Chinese daily newspaper quoted He Guoqiang: “This visit will help to develop relations between China and Poland in all areas.” China attaches great importance to its relations with the European Union. During its EU Presidency Poland can play a positive role in promoting China-EU relations.

In addition, He Guoqiang expressed the hope that Poland would play a key role in solving current problems, including those of trade between China and the EU – the newspaper stated. According to the China Daily, Bronisław Komorowski emphasized that Poland would strive to improve bilateral relations during its EU Presidency.

The China Daily highlighted that relations between China and Poland have been mostly positive and that Poland was one of the first countries to establish relations with the People’s Republic of China in 1949. “These mutual relations have reached another high point in recent years due to the fact that China’s growing economy has become an important market for Poland,” stated the newspaper.
