President Bronisław Komorowski met with the Chancellor of Germany on Saturday at Długa Street in Gdańsk. Angela Merkel and her husband, Joachim Sauer, a professor of quantum chemistry, paid a private visit to Pomerania at the invitation of the Polish President.

During the walk, which started in the courtyard of the Torture Chamber, the presidential couple and Merkel and Sauer strolled along the streets of the Main Town of Gdańsk, passing by the Artus Court and St. Mary’s Church, whose steeple has been recently renovated.

Unexpectedly, the guests visited Uphagen’s House, at Długa Street. It is a typical middle-class tenement house dating back to the 18th century, which currently houses a museum. While walking along Mariacka Street, Angela Merkel stopped for a moment by one of the amber stalls and exchanged a few words with the seller. The Chancellor also talked to some German tourists she met on the way.

Minister Sławomir Nowak told journalists that on Saturday a meeting between three people would also take place. In the evening at the President’s residence on the Hel Peninsula the following couples are to meet for dinner: Chancellor Angela Merkel and her husband, the presidential couple Anna and Bronisław Komorowski and Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his wife Małgorzata.

After the 50-minute walk along the streets of the historical city centre, they stopped at one of the cafes on Długa Street, where President Komorowski drank some beer while the other guests had mineral water and Goldwasser vodka from Gdańsk.

Then the couples took a navy boat moored along the Long Quay and set sail to the President's residence on the Hel Peninsula, where they will spend the weekend.
