Polish and Hungarian Presidents Bronisław Komorowski and János Áder met in Warsaw on Thursday to discuss cooperation within the two countries, the Visegrad Group of States and the future of the European Union.

 

Áder, great soccer fan, on a one day visit to Warsaw to watch the EURO 2012 football match between Germany and Italy, met with Komorowski prior to the match.

 

"I am noting with huge satisfaction that (...) EURO 2012 creates this type of good opportunity for underscoring Polish-Hungarian friendship and outlining prospects for further cooperation," Komorowski said during a joining press conference with Áder.

 

"I would like to stress that Poland and Hungary share views on and goals of issues of top importance to the European and regional policy and bilateral relations," the Polish president added.

 

He underlined that "he noted with utmost satisfaction joint view point on the role and meaning of the Visegrad Group of States," of which both countries are members (together with the Czech Republic and Slovakia).

 

President Komorowski added that he familiarized his guest with viewpoint on Ukraine, the co-host and co-organisers of the European football championships." "Also in this area I recorded with great satisfaction the community of concern and hope, but also the community of full understanding of Ukraine significance and its aspiration for the western world as an issue important for both our countries which are Ukraine neighbours," Komorowski stressed.

 

Áder, referring to bilateral relations assured Komorowski about non-existence of any contentious issues and conflicts between our countries and nations. Regarding cooperation within the Visegrad Group Áder said "all measures should be used to build North-South transport corridor."

 

The two also dwelled on the future of the European Union pointing to ongoing summit in Brussels.

 

Áder thanked Komorowski for initiating him to Poland and congratulate him on "diplomatic achievements." (PAP)
