President thanks farmers for toil

President Bronislaw Komorowski Sunday at a harvest thanksgiving ceremony in Poland's Jasna Gora Catholic sanctuary in Czestochowa thanked farmers for their toil and upholding Polish traditions.

 

"I thank all the people of the Polish rural regions for how you tend to our common heritage - Polish soil", Komorowski told thousands of farmers gathered at Jasna Gora shortly before a special mass celebrated by Czestochowa archbishop Waclaw Depo.

 

Bronislaw Komorowski said the Jasna Gora harvest ceremony was "a good occasion and a good time to remember about the meaning of our daily bread".

Continuing the daily bread metaphor, the president remarked that in today's independent Poland patriotism "is reborn as concern for our daily bread, for the patient and effort-consuming reconstruction of the country from destruction by wars and communist economy".

 

Polish Episcopate head archbishop Jozef Michalik appealed for more appreciation for the work of farmers and rural traditions. (PAP)
