Czech President visits Poland

Czech President Vaclav Klaus began an official visit to Poland on Thursday morning with an official welcome ceremony in the courtyard of the Presidential Palace.

 

The Czech President will visit Warsaw and Krakow.
 

This is a farewell visit for Klaus who is ending his second and final term in office. The Czech Republic will hold its first direct presidential election in January 2013.

 

Following a brief welcome ceremony the Polish and Czech Presidents, Bronisław Komorowski and Vaclav Klaus started a round of talks which were to cover political cooperation, both bilateral and in the EU as well as economic issues, including transport and energy infrastructure development and energy security in the region.

 

Later in the day the Czech guest met with Sejm and Senate Speakers Ewa Kopacz and Bogdan Borusewicz.

 

In the afternoon, Vaclav Klaus received the honoris causa doctorate of UKSW Catholic University in Warsaw. President Bronisław Komorowski congratulated Klaus on the doctorate and said the distinction was intended to honour both scholarly and political activities of the laureate. The Polish president also thanked Klaus for his contribution to building Polish-Czech relations.

 

In the evening, President Komorowski gave out a dinner in honour of the Czech presidential couple.

 

On Friday morning, Polish and Czech presidents attended the inauguration of the Polish-Czech business forum in Warsaw. From Warsaw the Czech president traveled to Krakow. (PAP/ own information)
