President sends letter to PM over seed law

President Bronisław Komorowski has sent a letter to Prime Minister Donald Tusk concerning the currently debated seed law. Polish president appealed for comprehensive regulation of the GMO issue in one act of law.

In his letter, the president stressed that the law should be broadly consulted and a public debate should be held on the issue. Bronisław Komorowski asked the PM to present information on government plans concerning such a comprehensive GMO law.

Komorowski has recalled that he refused to sign a government seed bill in 2011 as it did not presented a comprehensive approach to the GMO issue.

The president has also said that his original bill, filed with the Sejm (lower house) in January 2012, did not change the current GMO regulations. Such changes have been subsequently introduced by the parliament in the face of the imminent EU sanctions. (PAP)
