Polish-Hungarian Economic Forum in Tarnow

Presidents Bronislaw Komorowski and Janos Ader pointed to great potential of small and medium firms in both countries and encouraged their cooperation during the inauguration Polish-Hungarian Economic Forum in Tarnow, southern Poland, and Saturday.

"Our countries make the mistake of looking towards giant western corporations (for cooperation) instead of recognizing the potential of our home-based small and medium size firms for making excellent products and appreciating the scope for Polish-Hungarian economic cooperation this creates," said president Ader.

President Komorowski noted that small and medium size firms largely contributed to Poland's economic success. It was Poland's and Hungary's common success that the two countries won EU membership and also passed a difficult test when various contradictory interests could have spoiled bilateral relations, he added.

The Forum in Tarnow was held in the framework of this year's observances of the Polish-Hungarian Friendship Day. Earlier Saturday the two presidents unveiled a plaque commemorating the Day and General Jozef Bem, the Polish and Hungarian national hero of the Spring of Nations era.

The Friendship Day is celebrated alternately in Poland and Hungary every March 23 since 2007. (PAP)
