Saudi Arabia is a desired economic partner for Poland, President Bronislaw Komorowski said after Sunday talks with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Bronislaw Komorowski said Sunday that his Riyadh talks show that there is great interest in the Polish economy what, in his opinion, is a chance for deeper economic cooperation.

"Saudi capital is already present at the Warsaw Stock Exchange, not directly, not under its own sign, but this presence creates the best climate and best conveyer of information to the Saudi business that there is a stock market (in Warsaw), which has become the biggest (bourse) in our part of Europe," said the president.

Bronislaw Komorowski said that he discussed with the Crown Prince also the international situation, but the meeting was dominated by economic issues. The president described the meeting with Crown Prince Salman as "fruitful." "We discussed a whole range of issues related to political cooperation between Poland and Saudi Arabia."

The Polish president speaking to reporters said that sides signed an agreement on bilateral defence cooperation. This agreement opens far-reaching prospects for cooperation of not only the armed forces, but also of both countries' defence industries, the president added.

President Komorowski started his official visit to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates on Saturday during which he planned to encourage Arab businessmen to invest in Poland and promote Poland's economy.

The Presidential Chancellery emphasised that Komorowski's visit to the Arab countries is aimed at strengthening economic relations. Poland is interested, among others, in increasing these countries' investment involvement in Poland and in intensifying trade cooperation.

During the visit, President Komorowski is accompanied by a government delegation. During various economic forums the president will be accompanied by representatives of some 50 companies representing the defence, construction, chemical, metallurgical, transport, food, IT and medical sector as well a companies involved in the production of renewable energy and luxury products such as yachts and cosmetics.

Poland has a positive trade balance with Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE, while turnover with Arab countries has been growing in recent years.

The country's exports to the UAE increased from USD 342 million in 2011 to USD 440 million in 2012. Overall turnover increased from USD 458 million to USD 542 million.
