"Poland supports Ukraine's peace-restoring actions"

President Bronislaw Komorowski in a letter assured Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko of his support for measures being taken by the Ukrainian authorities to restore peace.

"It was with great sorrow that I listened to news of the Malaysian passenger liner shot down over eastern Ukraine yesterday. Shocked at the separatists' new victims, at this tough time for Ukraine when it has to struggle against threats to the country's territorial integrity, I wish to assure you, Mr President, of my consistent support for the actions that Ukrainian authorities are undertaking to restore peace," Komorowski wrote in his letter to Poroshenko.

Poland supports Poroshenko's peace plan and "fully acknowledges Ukraine's right to use force in defence of its territorial integrity and to stabilise the situation," the Polish president also wrote.

"Today, in the face of yet another tragedy, we express solidarity with Ukraine," Komorowski underlined, adding that he hoped that all the circumstances of how the Malaysia Airlines plane was shot down would be explained.

"I would also like to emphasise that we very strongly oppose any form of assistance for the separatists. The moral, political and legal responsibility for their actions falls upon those who provide them with assistance," the letter reads.

"I assure you once again of Poland's full support for Ukraine and the actions you are undertaking," Komorowski concluded. (PAP)
