The president, who made the announcement after a meeting with Kopacz, said it was a difficult task but stressed he was sure that the to-date Sejm speaker would succeed.

President Komorowski wished Kopacz "persistence, patience and competence during the uneasy stage of forming the government". "This is a difficult time, a difficult task but I am sure that you will succeed, using also the knowledge acquired during your work as Sejm speaker," Komorowski said.

Kopacz thanked the president for the confidence placed in her and promised that it would be "a good government".

A new cabinet is to be formed on Sept. 22. Kopacz declared that she wanted to deliver a policy speech and win a vote of confidence for her government during an additional Sejm meeting after Sept. 26.(PAP)
