Innovations are a great challenge and an opportunity for Poland and Israel, President Bronislaw Komorowski said on Tuesday at the signing of a memorandum on cooperation, exchange of information and business and technology experience.

The memorandum was signed at the Economy Ministry after a Polish-Israeli innovation seminar attended by President Komorowski and Israeli President Reuven Rivlin.

Innovation is a great opportunity and an area in which Poland is prepared to invest, the Polish president remarked.

"We know that we have to arm the Polish economy with new capabilities for competing in the increasingly difficult global market reality. We want to see this as a joint opportunity. We would like to see closer cooperation in innovation in a broad sense," President Komorowski said.

"One of the mechanisms we are counting on ... is opening Poland up to contacts with external partners, also partners beyond Europe. The State of Israel is such a desirable partner," the Polish president underlined.

An agreement on industrial research and development signed earlier in the day in the two presidents' presence is a step forward in economic cooperation between Israel and Poland, remarked President Rivlin.

Israel's president appealed to the seminar participants to strengthen Polish-Israeli ties, hold talks between companies, share ideas and work together.

The memorandum was signed by representatives of the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP) and the MATIMOP Israeli Industry Centre for Research and Development. The signatories pledged to promote information on business operations, business culture and the political environment in their countries. (PAP)
