The National Security Strategy is a significant document outlining directions of activity which are important in the light of changes in security behind Poland's eastern border, President Bronislaw Komorowski said on Wednesday after signing the document.

The president added that signing the document during a ceremony at the Belvedere Palace he wanted to stress its significance. "This is an important document defining the changes and laying down directions of actions that are significant in the light of the situation we have found ourselves in as a nation, and also in the face of the changed situation in security behind Poland's eastern border," President Komorowski said.

The ceremony was attended by deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Tomasz Siemoniak, National Security Bureau (BBN) head Stanislaw Koziej and Polish Army generals.

The president added that the strategy laid down the directions of actions which are significant both for the armed forces and other bodies that are co-responsible for the state's defence ability. "I am happy that today's meeting is attended also by representatives of NGOs and local governments," the president said, adding that he was sure that together they would manage to implement the strategy and make it effective.

The strategy is a comprehensive outline of national security issues, listing optimal ways of utilising all available resources for security needs. It was adopted by the government on October 21. The document replaces the strategy from 2007. (PAP)
