Our aim is for more Poles to have the will to celebrate the country's independence together and we will continue to encourage this, President Bronislaw Komorowski said Tuesday in an address closing Warsaw's Independence Day march.

"We can and should rejoice over the freedom that is our share", Bronislaw Komorowski said, noting that this year's march gathered vast numbers of people.

"This is a cause for joy as it proves that this approach to patriotism, tradition and the celebration of national holidays is gaining acceptance", the president observed.

The march, titled "Together for Independence", led through downtown Warsaw, stopping at memorials to outstanding Polish historical figures. The march celebrated Poland's 1918-regained independence after World War One and its 1989 liberation from communism.

Attending were among others parliamentary speakers Radoslaw Sikorski and Bogdan Borusewicz, PM Ewa Kopacz, former PM Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Tomasz Siemoniak.

The procession's final stop was the Jozef Pilsudski memorial near the Belvedere Palace, where Komorowski thanked the march participants for their attendance.(PAP)
