President: No reason to question validity of local elections

There are no reasons for questioning the validity of local elections, but the marked increase in the number of invalid votes for provincial assembly deputies is a reason for concern, said President Bronislaw Komorowski after meeting top judicial authorities.

After the meeting with the President of the Constitutional Tribunal and his predecessors president Komorowski announced that his chancellery will work on changes to the Election Code but ruled out they could be introduced before the presidential and parliamentary elections due in 2015.

Now the top priority is to complete local elections by holding their second round Nov.30, he said. Then the situation in the State Electoral Commission (PKW) should be stabilised, both with regard to personal line-up and organisation. Finally, it is necessary to draw conclusions from the vote-counting failure of Nov. 16 and amend the Election Code. (PAP, own information)
