We feel deep respect for those, who in fighting for their Ukrainian freedom are also strengthening Poland's freedom, President Bronislaw Komorowski said Saturday in Ladek Zdroj, southwest Poland, after meeting Ukrainian soldiers in medical treatment in Poland.

Komorowski said he was deeply impressed by the meeting with the Ukrainian soldiers, especially their readiness to sacrifice their lives for their country. He also voiced hope that they left Poland in the knowledge that many Poles supported their cause.

"I expressly hope that these Ukrainian soldiers (...) leave Poland in the firm belief that many hearts here look upon their freedom struggle (...) with sympathy and involvement", the president said.

Bronislaw Komorowski reminded Poland's historical slogan "for your freedom and ours", and said Ukraine's freedom fighters deserved especial respect as their struggle also helped strengthen Poland's freedom.

"We feel deep respect for those, who in fighting for their Ukrainian freedom are also strengthening Poland's freedom", Komorowski said.

Referring to his Sunday visit to Kiev for the anniversary of the city's 2014 Maidan protests which overthrew Ukraine's previous president and government, Komorowski said that the Maidan events had "deeply moved Polish hearts in support of Ukraine's independence and (inspired - PAP) our aid to Ukraine's pro-Western ambitions".

To date over a hundred Ukrainian soldiers have been treated in Poland's popular spa Ladek Zdroj for injuries sustained during battles in east Ukraine's Dnepropetrovsk region. The present group of veterans is the third. (PAP)
