Polish and Slovak Presidents Bronislaw Komorowski and Andrej Kiska met on Sunday to discuss joint energy and road investments, Visegrad Group cooperation and the situation inside the EU in view of the crisis in Ukraine.

The meeting was held in the ski resort of Witow in the Polish part of the Tatra Mountains.

President Komorowski told reporters that the visit was a good opportunity to stress the importance of cross-border contacts and the significance of Polish-Slovak relations for the future of "the closest possible cooperation between two friendly people and countries".

President Kiska reminded that good bilateral relations were also reflected by relations between the two presidents. "I have been president less than a year and we have already met ten times," he stressed.

The Slovak president added that the Sunday talks covered energy, infrastructure and the international situation. The Slovak president was satisfied that good Polish-Slovak relations are a good foundation for work between the four members of the Visegrad Group, which also includes the Czech Republic and Hungary.

Bronislaw Komorowski noted that he and Kiska discussed the Group's functioning and issues important for the entire region, especially in the context of the situation in Ukraine.

"The Visegrad Group is a significant achievement, important for the entire region. It continues to be a very useful tool for tackling and solving major problems and issues," stressed the Polish president.

"In unstable times, when instability is a source of concern, all forms of tested cooperation, both within the Visegrad Group and in Polish-Slovak relations, are an especially important and stable element and vital for solving present and future problems," observed Komorowski.

Earlier in the day, the two presidents were in Oravica on the Slovak side of the border to start this year's "Trail Without Borders" run organised since 2007 with the finishing line in Witow. The event promotes cross-country skiing in the Western Tatra mountains. (PAP)
