Meeting between the President of the Republic of Poland and the President of Ukraine

On 26 January 2005, a meeting was held between the President of the Republic of Poland, Aleksander Kwaśniewski, and the President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko, who visited Poland to attend the ceremony to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.
In the course of the meeting, the two Presidents discussed the state of Ukrainian-Polish cooperation and its future prospects, as well as a schedule of mutual relations. Other subjects touched upon at the meeting included the pro-European re-orientation of Ukraine’s foreign policy and the maintenance of good-neighbourly relations and comprehensive cooperation in the region of Eastern Europe.
The importance was also indicated of the Polish Year held currently in Ukraine and of the planned Ukrainian Year in Poland.
