Letter from the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom to the President of Poland

I wanted to thank you personally for the support and solidarity that Poland has shown to the United Kingdom since the London bombings on 7 July, not least for the memorial Mass for the victims in Warsaw on 8 July that you attended and for Marek Belka’s presence at the British Embassy  for the two minutes’ silence on 14 July. Thank you also for the posthumous honouring of one British victim, Giles Hart, who did so much to support the Solidarity movement. These expressions of condolence and the many other messages of support we have had from the Polish people have been hugely appreciated.
Tragically, of  course, three Polish lives were also lost on 7 July: Anna Brandt, Monika Suchocka and Karolina Gluck. Please pass my own deepest condolences to their families. Their deaths exemplify the fact that the London bombings were an attack on all of us and on our liberties, and demonstrate why we must stand firm in defence of the way of life that we all hold so dear.
