A meeting of the President of the Republic of Poland with the Ambassador of Mongolia

On 24 October 2006, the President of the Republic of Poland, Lech Kaczyński, received the Ambassador of Mongolia to the Republic of Poland, Baasansuren Tugalkhuu, about to end his diplomatic mission to Poland, at the Presidential Palace.

The President thanked the Ambassador for the four years of his diplomatic service in Poland. In the course of the meeting, Lech Kaczyński paid tribute to Mongolian troops for their diligent and professional military service on the stabilisation mission in Iraq. The Polish President recalled an incident in 2004 when the Al Hillah military base was saved by a Mongolian soldier who shot an Iraqi terrorist, saving the lives of several hundred Polish troops.

In the course of the meeting, the partners emphasized the very good state of Polish-Mongolian relations. The Mongolian Ambassador observed that 2006 was the 750th anniversary of the first documented meeting between a Pole and a Mongol. Mr. Tugalkhuu said how happy he was to serve as Mongolian Ambassador to the Republic of Poland in a year of such symbolic significance for Polish-Mongolian relations.

The meeting concluded with Mr. Baasansuren Tugalkhuu conveying an invitation to visit to his country from the President of Mongolia, Nambaryn Enkhbayar, to the President of the Republic of Poland. The President of the Republic of Poland accepted the invitation and asked the Ambassador to give his regards to the President of Mongolia.
