Official visit of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko to Poland

On 12th May the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko came to Poland for a two-day official visit upon invitation of the President of the Republic of Poland Lech Kaczyński. President Kaczyński welcomed the Ukrainian Guest and his accompanying delegation on the courtyard of the Presidential Palace.

Following the welcoming ceremony the Presidents chaired Polish-Ukrainian plenary talks, which concerned bilateral relations and international issues. The discussion concerned possible joint initiatives as regards energy security, co-operation regarding military technology, improvement of the situation on border crossings – both with respect to volumes as well as technology. In the course of the talks matters regarding memory and the joint visit on 13th May 2006 to Pavlokoma were discussed. Both Presidents underscored that despite the difficult past the direction should be chosen towards mutual rapprochement of our societies and citizens. The Presidents declared the appointment in the next days of plenipotentiaries for exchange of youth, teachers, local authority representatives of both states. The hope was expressed of Poland and Ukraine jointly winning the competition for hosting the 2012 European Football Championships.

The meeting of the Presidents of Poland and Ukraine was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland as well as representatives of the Economy, Health and Culture Ministries of Poland and Ukraine
