Political consultations of the Chief of Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Poland

On 1st March 2007 in the Presidential Palace the Chief of Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Poland Ms Elżbieta Jakubiak held political consultations with Foreign Policy and Security Advisor to the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Mr Christoph Heusgen.

Also taking part in the talks were: from the side of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland – Advisor to the Polish Presidents Dr Marek Cichocki and Director of the Foreign Affairs Bureau Mr Mariusz Handzlik, from the Federal Chancellery – Director of the Central and South-Eastern Europe, Southern Caucasus and Central Asia Department Mr Norman Walter.

During the consultations preparations were discussed for the visit of the Federal Chancellor Ms Angela Merkel in Poland on 16-17 March this year. Moreover the discussion also focused on current issues in Polish-German relations.

The interlocutors also exchanged views about current EU issues, especially in the context of the German Presidency in the Council of the European Union. Particular attention was given to matters of the European Neighbourhood Policy as well as the Berlin Declaration and the ceremony connected with the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome, which is to take place in Berlin on 24-25 March 2007.
