Statement of the Chancellery of the President of RP in connection with the situation in Georgia

In connection with the tense situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, President of the Republic of Poland Mr Lech Kaczyński expresses his full support to Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. President Lech Kaczyński advocates peaceful resolution of the Georgian-Russian conflict and reaffirms Poland’ s commitment to further support President Saakashvili’s Plan for peaceful resolution of the conflict.

President Lech Kaczyński appeals to the Russian Federation to refrain from measures which could exacerbate the tension and might imperil the achievement of an agreement. In the opinion of the Polish President, it is crucially important that this conflict should be resolved through political and diplomatic measures.

At the same time, the President of the Republic of Poland urges the international community to engage in actions heading off the conflict and leading to a successful resolution of the dispute In Abkhazia and South Ossetia in line with the rules of international law.

The President intends to raise this issue in his talks with leaders of EU Member States at tomorrow’s Summit in Paris.
