President of RP met with President of Georgia

On 11 November 2008, President of RP Mr Lech Kaczyński met with President of Georgia Mr Mikheil Saakashvili. The interlocutors discussed the current situation in Georgia in the context of the Russian-Georgian conflict and also the state-of-play in implementation of Sarkozy-Medvedev Plan which was concluded on the 8th September 2008 in Moscow.

In the course of the meeting, President Saakashvili informed the Polish President that the Russian side has not withdrawn all of their troops from the Georgian territory, in fact leaving some of the units in the vicinity of 30km from the Georgian capital Tbilisi. The President of Georgia also provided information to President Lech Kaczyński about the ongoing ethnic cleansing carried out by the Russians on the Georgian territory.

In the discussion, the President of RP assured his interlocutor about the unswerving support to the granting of a NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP) to Georgia. At the same time, President Lech Kaczyński pledged a continuing support to Georgia on the forum of the European Union and NATO.

Towards the end of the meeting, President Mikheil Saakashvili thanked President Lech Kaczyński for all support lent to Georgia, including the August visit in Tbilisi.
