President of RP speaks on the phone to Mikhail Saakashvili

On 6 January 2008, President of the Republic of Poland Mr Lech Kaczyński had a telephone conversation with Mr Mikhail Saakashvili.

Following his conversation with the President of Estonia, this was the second telephone conversation that Mr Saakashvili had after the presidential elections in Georgia.

Mr Saakashvili informed the President of RP about preliminary results of the elections as for today. According to exit polls, he has obtained 55 percent of the vote, his opponent securing 24 percent. Mr Saakashvili also pointed out that according to OSCE observers in Europe Saturday’s presidential elections in Georgia conformed to most of international standards.

Mr Mikhail Saakashvili expressed his thanks to the President of RP for his support and for his visit to Georgia in November 2007.
Mr Saakashvili extended an invitation to President Lech Kaczyński to come to Georgia for his inaugural ceremony if the official results confirm his victory in presidential elections. The ceremony would be held in the second half of January 2008.
