President of RP to the Czech Republic
On 8 January 2009 in the afternoon, following an invitation from the President of the Czech Republic, Mr Vaclav Klaus, the President of the Republic of Poland President of the Republic of Poland, Mr Lech Kaczyński and Mrs Kaczyńska went on a short working visit to Prague.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss the priorities of the Czech Presidency of the EU which commenced as of January 1, 2009, as well as current bilateral relations and the gas crisis between Russia and Ukraine.
During the visit, the President of RP met with Mr Vaclav Klaus, the President of the Czech Republic. A press conference was also held.
President Lech Kaczyński made among others the following points:
"My message is an offer for cooperation within the Presidency framework but with due consideration to the fact that it is the Czech Presidency that is now holding the Presidency. It is my firm belief that the Czech Presidency will be a success story and that this success, to the credit of the Czech Presidency, will be achieved in cooperation with its friends. I believe Poland counts among such friends.”
Thereafter, the Presidents together with Spouses had a dinner together. Late in the evening, President Lech Kaczyński also met with Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek.
Later at night, the Presidential Couple returned to Poland.
