Tomasz Żukowski - Advisor to the President

Mr Żukowski was born on 3 October 1957 in Radzyn Podlaski. He completed his primary and secondary education in Tomaszow Lubelski. A sociologist, political scientist, social policy researcher. Doctoral degree in humanities. As of 1980, he has been working in the Institute of Social Policy at the Department of Journalism and Political Sciences of the University of Warsaw, the university that he graduated. He is also a university teacher in Collegium Civitas, and starting from 2006, he has been cooperating with the Centre for Thought of John Paul II in Warsaw.


He held lectures among others at the National-Louis University in Nowy Sącz, at the Jagiellonian University, in Krakow’s Tischner European University and in the Regional Institute in Katowice. In 1994-1995, he led a social research team in the public opinion research centre OBOP. The author and co-author of many public opinion surveys, of several books and numerous academic articles, also ones destined for the general public on the subjects ranging from public opinion, through evolution of Poland’s political system, elections to the activities of workers’ organisations.


For several years now he has been analysing and commenting developments on the Polish political arena in various broadcasting stations, newspapers and periodicals. In 1981, Mr Żukowski was cooperating with workers’ self-government movement in the Mazovian region. After 1989, he served as an expert of the Civic Parliamentary Caucus and of the Solidarity Electoral Action AWS. In 1998-2001 and in 2006-2007, he was a Board Member in the Public Opinion Research Centre CBOS.


Married, his wife is a physician; he has a daughter and a son. He has no party affiliation. Member of NSZZ ”Solidarność” and of the Polish Sociological Society.
