Jerzy Smoliński

Born in Brześć Kujawski on 26th November 1967. He graduated from a Technical Secondary School in Włocławek. A graduate of the Stefan Czarnecki Higher Officers' School of Armour in Poznań and of the University of Wrocław.


From 1991 to 1993 platoon commander at the Higher Officers' School of Armour in Poznań. From 1993 a press spokesman of the Higher Officers' School of Quartermaster Services in Poznań. After the creation of the Stefan Czarnecki Higher Officers’ School in Poznań in 1994 a press spokesman of the commander of that School until 2001. He participated in the creation of the press service in the military. He prepared the first army contingents for missions outside the country as far as the media are concerned.


In 2001, he was appointed by the Minister of National Defence as the deputy director of the Press and Information Office – the Minister's spokesman. He remained at that post until November 2001. Later he commenced doctoral studies at the National Defence Academy in Rembertów. At the Sub-Faculty of Law and International Security he opened a doctoral dissertation on the subject of “The Role of the Media in Shaping the Security Policy of the United States“. He leaves the studies and the army in 2003 and is sent to the reserve in the rank of a major.


In 1994, he starts cooperation with the Polish Television SA. He produces reports for the first and the second channel of the Polish Television connected with the issues of defence and national security. Since 1997 an author of the Poznań “Military Magazine“ performed at the Poznań TVP division. Until 2001, he completed several dozens of programs on military issues for TVP, both in Poland and abroad. His latest TV production was a documentary series on the preparations of the Polish pilots to an F-16 aircraft training.


Between 2004 and 2006, he was the director for program matters at the Poznań TVP division. From 2007 to 2010, he was an advisor of the Sejm Speaker responsible for contacts with the press.


He was honoured with the medals: Merits for Country Defence Medal, Armed Forces in the Service of the Country, Organic Work and many other awards for work in the television and in the military service. He participated in the American Visitor Leadership Program connected with crisis management in the media.

A yearlong soloist of the military choir and the sung poetry group.


Married to Małgorzata Smolińska, he has two sons – Maciej and Jan.
