Prof. Tomasz Borecki

Born on 26th May 1949 in Lublin. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Forestry of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. In 1997 he became an associate professor and in 2003 a full professor. Between 1996 and 2002, he was a pro-rector for didactics. In 2002, he became the rector of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences; in 2005, he was elected for the second term.

Between 1996 and 2007, he co-organized 15 new faculties and 6 associate didactic centres of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. Between 2002 and 2007, as the rector, he was controlling the expansion of the University and modernization of experimental centres (Rogów, Obory). In 2007, he introduced the University into the Elite Club – Euro League for Life Sciences (ELLS).

He is an author of over 200 scientific research works, 60 of which being original creative output. He is also an author of over 70 scientific documentations, expert works, and designs. He made a significant contribution to the development of a scientific field called Forest Management. He also contributed to the spread of knowledge concerning forestry through numerous publications in specialist magazines and participation in conferences. He was a co-author of six screenplays of nature films. He completed numerous academic internships abroad (in Switzerland, Finland, Austria, Norway, and Slovakia).

He has been actively working for scientific boards and expert committees and groups. Until 2010 (for 20 years), he has been a member of the Scientific Board of the Białowieski National Park. Currently he is a member of the Scientific Board of the Biebrza National Park and the Board of the Promotional Complex of the Kozienicki Forest. Since 2003, he is the President of the Forest Friends Association. He was an expert at the Sejm Environment Protection Committee. He is a member of the Italian Academy of Forest Sciences.

He has been repeatedly awarded for his scientific, organizational, and didactic achievements. The most important awards and honours include: the Knight's Cross and the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, National Education Medal, Gold Medal “Person of Merit for the Warsaw University of Life Sciences”, an honorary doctorate of the Lviv State Agricultural Academy in Dublany.

On 29th September 2010, Tomasz Borecki was nominated a Voluntary Advisor to the President.
