"Obama's Polish visit confirms US involvement in our region"

President Bronislaow Komorowski

Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski believes that in view of the situation in Ukraine US President Barack Obama's June visit to Poland will be seen as a confirmation of American involvement in the region and of security guarantees.
President Komorowski speaking to Polish Radio One, has said that President Obama will be one of the most important guests of the June celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of the first partly free elections in Poland, held on June 4, 1989 which led to the end of the communist rule.
The president remarked that the ceremonies will not mark an anniversary of 25 years after elections, but the "25th anniversary of Polish freedom... Freedom which began with an election victory and which later embraced other European countries." That is why it is so important that these celebrations are held in the presence of "the most important figures in the world," said the president.
The president stressed that it is important to consolidate Poles' belief that "freedom, not only ours, but of the entire Central and Eastern Europe began in Poland with the electoral victory in June 1989." "And this process came to end with the fall of the Berlin Wall, or even later on, with the enlargement of the EU and NATO," said Bronislaw Komorowski.
"I am convinced that in view of the situation in Ukraine, President Obama's visit will be clearly perceived as a manifestation US's commitment in our region and confirmation of security guarantees," stressed Bronislaw Komorowski.
President Barack Obama will visit to Poland in June to take part in celebrations of the 25th anniversary of democratic changes. During his European visit, Obama is also scheduled to take part in a G7 summit in Brussels. (PAP)
