Attempted destabilisation of Ukraine a global problem

President Bronislaw Komorowski

President Bronislaw Komorowski believes that attempts to destabilise the Ukrainian state, their effects including the shootdown of a Malaysian passenger liner on Thursday, are not just Ukraine's problem but a global one.

"Poland was among the countries which - sometimes even alone - offered the unequivocal view that the problem of Ukraine's independence and the continuation of the Ukrainian state in an unchanged territorial form went beyond issues of Ukrainian-Russian relations, beyond purely Ukrainian issues," the Polish president told reporters on Friday evening after speaking with Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

"We agree on this completely (with U.S. President Barack Obama), we also see (...) the problem of the effects of shooting down a passenger aircraft over eastern Ukraine as a global problem," Bronislaw Komorowski remarked.

"Russian separatists' attempts to break away some Ukrainian territories" led to results that affected "many countries situated a long way from the neighbourhood of Russia," the president added, underlining that "today we can see it is not just Ukraine's problem."

"Neither is it just a problem of the sensitivity of countries from the same region, which also spoke much more firmly about the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, about attempts to destabilise the Ukrainian state. Today we can see it is a global problem," Bronislaw Komorowski pointed out. (PAP)
