President on foreign minister's policy speech

Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna's policy speech in the Sejm (lower house) was comprehensive and covered everything relating to Polish foreign policy and the international situation, President Bronislaw Komorowski told reporters Thursday.
Earlier on Thursday Schetyna outlined Poland's foreign policy priorities for 2015. In his address the minister named Ukraine and the Islamic State as two major foreign policy challenges for Poland. He also declared that Poland and other countries may consider aiding Ukraine's defence if its conflict with Russia escalated.
Asked about Schetyna's speech, Bronislaw Komorowski said it was "comprehensive and covered all necessary issues from the perspective of Polish foreign policy and the international situation". The president added that he would have laid more emphasis on Poland's security and the security of NATO's eastern frontier, and in this context reminded about Poland's strivings for a common EU security policy and defence system, and the 2016 NATO summit in Warsaw.
Bronislaw Komorowski also praised Schetyna for accentuating Poland's activity outside the EU, especially in Asia and Africa, and stressed that this confirmed the minister's "proper understanding of Poland's needs and possibilities". In this connection he mentioned Poland's strategic partnership agreements with China, Japan and South Korea, which in his opinion opened good economic growth prospects.(PAP)
