President Bronislaw Komorowski on Wednesday appealed to Poles for financial aid for Nepalese who have suffered in the recent earthquake.
Money for this purpose can be paid into the bank accounts of organisations such as Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH), Caritas Polska, the Polish Red Cross, the Polish Centre for International Aid and UNICEF Polska, the Polish president said.
"We are proud ... of Polish firefighters, rescue specialists who are currently taking part in the search for victims of the earthquake in Nepal", President Komorowski added.
On Wednesday Polish rescue workers taking part in the operation in Nepal were due to conduct searches in mountain localities which no aid has reached yet, Polish Fire Brigade Spokesman Pawel Fratczak told PAP.
Eighty-one Polish firefighters from a specialist search and rescue group have been in Nepal since Monday. They include two doctors and nine paramedics. The group has 12 sniffer dogs and specialist equipment.
On Tuesday night a special plane carrying 50 people - including 31 Poles - evacuated from Nepal landed in Warsaw. Some 100 Poles could still be in the danger zone, according to Polish Foreign Ministry estimates. So far no Polish casualties of the earthquake have been reported. (PAP)
