As part of the Flag Day celebration on May 2, Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski presented white-and-red national flags to representatives of nongovernmental and diaspora organisations, among others.
The president said he was pleased that the flags went to soldiers, NGOs, the Polish diaspora and Polish institutions. The official presentation of flags was a way of thanking these people for consistently and effectively displaying the Polish flag, he added.
Flag Day is meant as a celebration of the Polish flag as a symbol of victory and freedom, a symbol of existence, continuation and developing national community, President Komorowski also said.
After the ceremony the president opened an outdoor exhibition devoted to famous Polish explorers, researchers, discoverers and journalists. To mark Flag Day, the Presidential Palace was open for sightseeing on Saturday.
